04/03/1921
Born in Rio Grande do Norte (Northeast), she moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1941 with her husband, also a musician. She worked on the radio until finding success with the song "Tico-Tico no Fubá". Her fame as a choro interpreter grew and choro composers would offer her new songs every year. She eventually became known as The Queen of Choro. She was accompanied by the groups that were led by artists like Claudionor Cruz, Garoto, Waldir Azevedo, Severino Araújo, Canhoto, Jacob do Bandolim, Pixinguinha, Radamés Gnattali and maestro Chiquinho. Her recording of the classic choro "Brasileirinho" (Waldir Azevedo) was a big hit in 1950. She sings with the group As Eternas Cantoras do Rádio (The Eternal Radio Singers) since 1997.
