Adriana Calcanhotto
03/10/1965
Adriana Calcanhotto started out singing at nightclubs, barbecue restaurants and bars in Porto Alegre (capital of Rio Grande do Sul). By the late 80s, she headed to Rio de Janeiro, releasing her debut album, "Enguiço", in 1990. That LP featured two songs written by herself ("Enguiço" and "Mortaes"), versions of songs like "Caminhoneiro" (Roberto Carlos/Erasmo Carlos) and "Disseram Que Eu Voltei Americanizada" (Luis Peixoto/Vicente Paiva, tuned famous by Carmen Miranda). At that time, some critics appointed her as a promising new act, while others did not share that vision. The second album, "Senhas" (1992) features more songs written by Adriana, on a distinctive bossa nova approach. Claiming to be annoyed with too much media exposure, she puts out the experimental "A Fábrica do Poema" in 1994. Her partners on that album were Waly Salomão, Antônio Cícero, Arnaldo Antunes and Jorge Salomão. Still, there were a few hit tracks, such as "Metade". The follow-up of that came in 1998 and was named "Marítimo", with dance tracks ("O Parangolé Pamplona" and "Pista de Dança"), samples ("Vamos Comer Caetano") and reviews (Caymmi's "Quem Vem Pra Beira do Mar"). In 2000, Calcanhotto released the live album "Público". Other hits: "Naquela estação" (João Donato/ Caetano Veloso), "Esquadros" (Adriana Calcanhotto), "Mentiras" (Adriana Calcanhotto), "Inverno" (Adriana Calcanhotto/ Antônio Cícero), "Vambora" (Adriana Calcanhotto)
