Agostinho dos Santos

Born in São Paulo, he worked as a crooner and on the radio. Headed for Rio de Janeiro in 1955 to sing with Ângela Maria and Sílvia Telles, recording his debut LP, "Uma Voz e seus Sucessos", in the next year. He worked in the film 'Black Orpheus" (Marcel Camus), performing the songs "Manhã de Carnaval" (L. Bonfá/ Moraes) and "A Felicidade" (Jobim/ Moraes). During the 1950s and 60s, he collected awards as a songwriter and singer. Agostinho played the 1962 Bossa Nova fest at the Carnegie Hall with Oscar Castro Neves. He toured Europe and died in a plane crash in Paris.
