Self-taught musician, debuted in a talent show on the radio. He headed for Rio de Janeiro at age 17, and worked as a crooner. His first big hit was "Tudo de Mim" (E.Gouveia/J.Amorim). He recorded in Spanish and performed in various countries around Latin America, selling more than 500 thousand albums. Then, he became big within the Latin community in the United States. Dutra died during a show in New York City.
