Ara Ketu
Afro bloco (percussion group) from Bahia, founded in 1980, originated the Banda Ara Ketu in 1989. Before enjoying hits in Brazil, the band engaged in successful tours outside of the country with their African-like drumming mixed with synthesizers, samplers and electronic beats. A vocalist and a brass section were added to the group. The first album, "Ara Ketu", was only released in Europe. In Brazil, they become known in 1994, with "Ara Ketu Bom Demais". "Ara Ketu ao Vivo", from 1998, already flirting with the pop pagode, sold over 2 million copies. Bloco Ara Ketu is still working in Bahia, mainly during carnival.
