Baby do Brasil
18/07/1952
Born in Niterói (Rio de Janeiro state), Baby began singing and playing the acoustic guitar while attending high school. She moved to Salvador (capital of Bahia) in 1968, adopting the stage name Baby Consuelo. In Bahia, she met Novos Baianos guitarist, Pepeu Gomes, whom she married. Baby joined Novos Baianos as a vocalist, and moved back to Rio with them. By the late 70s, as the group split, she and Pepeu started performing as a duo, achieving huge success with the songs "Menino do Rio" (Caetano Veloso) and "Todo Dia Era Dia de Índio" (Jorge Ben). She recorded regularly until 1986. In the 90s, she changed her name to Baby do Brasil (Baby From Brazil), recording "Infinito Circular" in 1997 - actually a Novos Baianos reunion. She later released "Acústico Ao Vivo" and the pop music disc "Um".
