César Camargo Mariano
19/09/1943
Son of a music teacher, he started playing the piano on his own and started to perform at age 14, being regarded as a prodigy. He made friends with Johnny Alf, who encouraged him to study harmony, arrangement and composition. César lined-up the group Três Américas in 1962, performing at parties and balls. He headed for São Paulo the next year, joining the Quarteto Sabá, with whom he recorded for the first time. Shortly after he joined the Sambalanço Trio with Airto Moreira and Humberto Claiber. By the end of the decade, he made albums with the group Som Três. In the 1970s, he initiated a successful partnership with Elis Regina, becoming her musical director, producer and arranger, and touring around Brazil and other countries. He also participated in albums by Chico Buarque, Maria Bethânia, Jorge Ben and others. During that period, he got into jingle production and movie soundtracks. In the 80s, he released two albums regarded as historic: "Samambaia", with guitarist Hélio Delmiro, and "Voz e Suor", with Nana Caymmi. Mariano continued to work as an arranger, producer, songwriter and pianist in Brazil until 1994, when he moved to the United States.
