Cyro Monteiro
28/05/1913
13/07/1973
He used to sing informally with friends, until one day, in 1933, when Silvio Caldas invited him to substitute Luís Barbosa during a radio show. The next year, he was hired by the radio station and became known for using a match box to give the rhythm for his interpretation. In 1936, he made the first recording for that year's carnival, so successful that he ended up singing with Carmen Miranda, Francisco Alves and Mário Reis. A year later, he recorded his first big hit, "Se Acaso Você Chegasse" (Lupiscínio Rodrigues and Felisberto Martins). He enjoyed several other hits during the 1940s, such as "Falsa Baiana", "Escurinho" (both by Geraldo Pereira) and "Boogie-woogie na Favela" (Denis Brean). In 1956, he participated as an actor in Vinicius de Moraes' play, "Orfeu da Conceição". He kept recording and performing along the 1960s and 1970s.
