Daúde nascimento 23/09/1961

Daúde was born in Candeal, Salvador, and moved to Rio de Janeiro at age eleven. She studied with the baritone, Paulo Fortes, at the Escola Villa-Lobos and Visual Arts at Escola Martins Pena. She started her performing career as a singer in musicals, cafés and nightclubs, until she received an invitation to make her first recording, "Daúde", in 1985. In this record she brought about a meeting of different musical styles of African origin, varying from the most modern to the most traditional. One of the tracks on this album is "Véu Vavá," a homage made to her father, Carlinhos Brown, her neighbor in Candeal and "As Quatro Meninas", of public domain. In 1997, Daúde released "Daúde #2", produced by a Brazilian/English pair, Celso Fonseca and Will Mowatt (from the group Soul II Soul). "Pata Pata" (a version of the success by the South African singer, Miriam Makeba), "Vamos Fugir" (by Gilberto Gil and Liminha, sung in duet with Djavan), "Une Chanson Triste" (by Herbert Vianna) and an electric re-recording of the jongo "As Baratas" (by Darcy da Serrinha) were some of the tracks on this CD, which reinforced its presence on the foreign market. After a tour in Europe, Daúde returned in 1999 with the album, "Simbora", with dance remixes of songs from her first two records. The novelty of the CD was "Venus", a cover of the song by the Swedish band, Shocking Blue, made by the singer together with Cris Braun.
