Djalma Ferreira

Djalma studied the piano and violin in his youth, and started out his career as a songwriter in 1938, when Francisco Alves and Silvio Caldas recorded "Longe dos Olhos" (written with Cristóvão de Alencar). In the 40s, he worked as a pianist at nightclubs in Rio de Janeiro. Djalma traveled South America and settled in Rio in the 50s. He recorded a few albums with his group, and enjoyed a number of hits as a songwriter: "Lamento", "Murmúrio", "Devaneio" (with Luís Antônio), "Volta" (with Luís Bandeira) and "Nosso Samba" are some of them.
