Djavan
27/01/1949
Born into a poor family in Maceió (capital of Alagoas, Northeast Brazil), Djavan formed the group Luz, Som, Dimensão (LSD – "Light, Sound, Dimension"), playing Beatles covers. He headed to Rio de Janeiro in 1973, starting to work as crooner at a nightclub. He competed in festivals and recorded the LP "A Voz, o Violão e a Arte de Djavan" in 1976, playing his own songs and dragging attention to his unique singing and guitar playing skills, which displayed elaborate melodies and subtle rhythmic patterns. "Flor de Lis", one of his greatest hits ever, was right in this first record. On his next albums, Djavan incorporated other influences, such as African music, and accumulated number one singles like "Açaí", "Sina" and "Samurai", the latter featuring Stevie Wonder’s harmonica. He made other records and performed abroad, especially in the US, where his music has been recorded by numerous singers. Some of his best known compositions are: "Meu Bem Querer", "Oceano", "Faltando um Pedaço", "Esquinas", "Seduzir", "Pétala", "Lilás", "A Ilha", "Fato Consumado", "Álibi", "Azul" and "Cerrado".
