Edison Machado
15/09/1990
Drummer Edison Machado made incursions on both Bossa Nova and samba, and is regarded as the inventor of the "ride cymbal samba".
He played at Beco da Garrafas - a nightclub where Bossa Nova members used to hang out and make live performances - with practically all of the Bossa Nova musicians in the late fifties. In 1963, Machado released the album "Edison Machado É Samba Novo". In the 70’s, virtually forgotten in Brazil, Edison Machado went to Europe and later to the U.S., where he performed and was responsible for the popularity of the samba-jazz. He created the Edison Machado Quartet, which used to perform in most renowned jazz clubs. He also appeared in some of the most important albums in Brazilian music history, such as "Sergio Mendes e Bossa Trio", "Bossa Três", "Rio 65 Trio", and “Victor Assis Brasil Toca Jobim".
