12/09/1933
14/11/1974
Erlon Chaves was born in São Paulo, but was in Rio that he knew stardom as a brilliant arranger and turned into an icon of Brazilian Popular Music. Erlon started study music very soon, at the age of seven, when he became a student of the Conservatório Musical Carlos Gomes.
In the 50's he stepped forward in the music business playing piano at nightclubs where he knew different musicians and developed his jazzy technics. In 1965, after working at TV Excelsior of São Paulo, Erlon goes to Rio de Janeiro to work at TV Tupi and, later on, at TV Rio where he became musical director, being one of the heads behind the I Festival Internacional da Canção in 1966. Two years after, with a solid reputation as conductor, arranger, pianist and composer, Erlon joins Elis Regina in her gig at the Olympia in Paris.
In 1970, at the 5º Festival Internacional da Canção, he conducted a 40-piece-choir what was named as Banda Veneno. This band released a lot of recordings in the 70's until Erlon's death at the year of 1974.
Erlon also released various singles for soundtracks like the almost-porno Soninha Toda Pura, a truly collector's item.
