Fernanda Abreu
08/09/1961
Born and raised in the southern area of Rio de Janeiro, Fernanda Abreu had a typical middle- class childhood and adolescence until joining the band Blitz in 1981 as a backing vocalist. In a short time, Blitz was turned into the greatest sensation within Brazilian pop-rock in the 80s, making 3 albums and touring Brazil and abroad. When the band broke up in 1986, she set out for a solo career, and started taking guitar and singing lessons. During that period, she played a number of shows with Fausto Fawcett & Os Robôs Efêmeros. In 1989 she lined up her own funk music band, which comprised a repertoire of disco music, defining the guidelines for her solo debut with the album "SLA Radical Dance Disco Club", released in 1990. "SLA" featured the hit "A Noite" (by Luiz Stein/ Laufer). With the CD "SLA2 - Be Sample", Fernanda Abreu became one of the first Brazilian musicians to promote a consistent use of samplers in songwriting. This album features the track "Rio 40 Graus" (by Fausto Fawcett/ Laufer). After that, her solo career took off. Abreu then released the CD "Da Lata", which, without losing its dance edge, presented a slight shift from funk/soul music to Brazilian beats. This album includes the songs "Veneno da Lata" (by Will Mowat), "Garota Sangue Bom" (by F. Fawcett) and "Brasil É o País do Suíngue" (by F. Fawcett/ Laufer/ Hermano Vianna).
