Francis Hime
31/08/1939
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Francis Hime first studied classical piano at the Brazilian Conservatory of Music. He spent a few years studying piano in Switzerland. In the 1960’s, Hime became involved with Brazilian Popular Music, and in 1963 he started working with Vinícius de Moraes, writing the song "Sem Mais Adeus and "Anoiteceu", among others. As a songwriter, Hime participated in music festivals, having his songs performed by well known Brazilian musicians, such as Elis Regina ("Por um Amor Maior", by Francis Hime and Ruy Guerra), MPB-4 ("Anunciação", by Francis Hime and P.C. Pinheiro), Jair Rodrigues ("Samba de Maria", by Francis Hime and Vinícius de Moraes). In the 70’s, his compositions with Chico Buarque became hits, making him well known in Brazil. Together, they wrote "Trocando em Miúdos", "Passaredo", "Meu Caro Amigo", "Vai Passar", "Quadrilha", "Atrás da Porta" and "Pivete".
Hime also wrote arrangements for movie soundtracks. Throughout his career, he never quite abandoned classical music, writing chamber music and symphonies. In 1986 he wrote "Symphony nº 1", performed and conducted by Hime in 1993 at the Sala Cecília Meireles, one of the most important Classical Music venues in Rio de Janeiro.
