Gueto
The band from the northern side of São Paulo promoted a mix of rap, samba, funk and baião in the 80s. Gueto made their first album, "Estação Primeira", in 1987, after playing a series of shows in Rio and São Paulo. Besides the four original members (Márcio, Júlio César, Marcola, Edson X), other acclaimed Brazilian musicians played in the album, such as Raul de Souza (trombone) and Luiz Batera (percussion). The songs "G.U.E.T.O." and "Borboleta Psicodélica" enjoyed relative success and were aired on alternative radio stations. The rhythmic mix promoted by the band can be considered pioneering and way ahead of its time. The second album, "E Agora Pra Dançar", was releasd in 1989. Less hyped than the first one, "E Agora..." produced the hit "Você Sabe Bem". Vocalist Júlio César left the band in 1993, being replaced by Tom Neto, who also promoted a numerology switch: the band changed its name to Guetho. In 1998, with a new name, they released their third album, "Tremeterra", more on the funk and soul side, achieving very little repercussion.
