The São Paulo-native used to watch music shows on the television. Inspired by music festivals, he lined-up the group Polissonante while attending high-school. Later, he debuted as a professional playing with Jorge Mautner's back up band. As an architecture student, he lined-up the band Moto Perpétuo, mixing prog rock and MPB, being strongly influenced by the music of "Clube da Esquina". The group managed to release an LP. In 1975, he went for a solo career, firstly as a romantic ballad songwriter, and in the next year he put out his first solo album, which featured the big hit "Meu Mundo e Nada Mais". He did not enjoy much media attention until 1981, when he was placed second on a music festival with the song "Planeta Água", which brought him back into stardom. In 1984, he moved with his family to Rio de Janeiro. Guilherme embraced pop music and wrote radio-friendly tunes, such as "Cheia de Charme". He continued recording and enjoying occasional hits, such as "Fã Número 1" and "Coisas do Brasil".
