Humberto Teixeira nascimento 05/01/1915 falescimento 03/10/1979

Born in Ceará (Northeast), Humberto began studying music as a child; first taking up the flute and then the mandolin. He settled in Rio de Janeiro in the 30s, willing to become a physician. There, he continued composing and publishing his music. He eventually gave up medical school and started studying law, getting a degree in 1943. In 1945, Teixeira met Luiz Gonzaga, the King of Baião. Working together, they established a massive promotion of northeastern rhythms, especially the baião. His first song written with Gonzaga was "Baião". Big hits followed: "Qui Nem Jiló", "Baião de Dois", "Assum Preto" and the greatest hit of all, "Asa Branca". In 1950, Humberto was elected congress representative for Ceará, working for the promotion of Brazilian music abroad.
