Ira!
A most authentic representative of the rock made in São Paulo, Ira! was assembled around 1980 by punk rock lovers who hung out on punk shows in the suburbs (Edgard Scandurra, guitar; Ricardo Gaspa, bass; Nasi, vocals and André Jung, drums). The name is an homage to the Irish Republican Army, although the word "ira" also means "rage" in Portuguese. The first single came out on Warner, in 1983, and featured the songs "Gritos na Multidão" and "Pobre Paulista", their first hits. The debut album, "Mudança de Comportamento", was released two years later, but didn't sell as much as the follow-up, "Vivendo e Não Aprendendo", which featured the hits "Envelheço na Cidade" and "Flores em Você". In the next years, the band had its ups and downs. Ira! played the Hollywood Rock festival in 1988 and released other albums in the 1990s, while Edgard Scandurra put out a few solo CDs. Hired by Abril Music in 1998, they returned to the charts with the albums "Isso É Amor" and "MTV Ao Vivo", making a very successful appearance on the main stage of the Rock in Rio festival in 2001.
