Ithamara Koorax

Encouraged by her musical godmother, the historic singer Elizeth Cardoso, Koorax debuted in the 80’s. She was the first singer to perform a song by composers Aldir Blanc and Guinga. In 1994, Koorax won the Sharp award in the "BPM Best New Artist" category, for the album "Ao Vivo". Koorax has sung with Hermeto Pascoal, Edu Lobo and Marcos Valle.
Her work is well known abroad, particularly in Japan, where the singer has performed several times and has had an expressive number of records sold. Koorax’s voice can be heard in movie soundtracks. Koorax has also performed in England, where her songs are very popular among acid jazz lovers. Koorax has worked with drummer Dom Um Romão and guitarist Luiz Bonfá, and has had quite a few songs included in BPM and bossa nova compilations around the world.
