João Roberto Kelly

Born in Rio de Janeiro, João started playing the piano and age 11. He debuted in the 1950s. Kelly worked on the television in the '60s and '70s. As a carnival songwriter, he became famous with "Cabeleira do Zezé" (with Roberto Faissal) and "Mulata Bossa Nova". Also a great samba composer of gems like "Boato" (turned into a hit by Elza Soares), "Mais do que Amor" (recorded by Jamelão) and "Dor de Cotovelo" (recorded by Elis Regina). His career peaked in the 1960s, when he made an album with sambalanço master pianist Luís Reis, featuring the hits "Gamação", "Brotinho Bossa Nova", "Samba do Teleco-teco", "Só Vou de Balanço" and "Ciuminho".
