Joyce
31/01/1948
Joyce started off her career as a singer, guitarist and composer in 1968, with the release of her first album, named after her. In the 70s, she made a few recordings and competed in festivals, but success came unexpectedly in 1980, in yet another festival, with the song "Clareana". The LP "Feminina" turned into a hit in a time when there weren’t many Brazilian women writing their own music and playing their own guitars. In the beginning of the 80s, she released her most commercially successful records, such as "Água e Luz" and "Tardes Cariocas". In the 90s, her music gathered new breath in European clubs, specially in England, instigating a new wave of Brazilian music abroad, this time re-directed to new audiences, something that is vaguely referred to as "new bossa" or "drum’n’bossa". That newfound interest caused her albums from the 70s and 80s to be re-issued, although some of them have not been distributed in Brazil. She currently engages in successful tours around the world, and has released new material and compilation records. Some of her most well known songs are "Feminina", "Monsieur Binot" and "Mistérios" (with Maurício Maestro).
