Leci Brandão

Samba composer and performer, born and raised in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro. Her first idol was Jorge Ben, but she was also influenced by rock and roll. She debuted as a singer and songwriter in the 60s. In 1972, she joined the composers' group of samba school Mangueira, being the first woman to accomplish such feat. Leci participated in samba and MPB festivals, releasing her first single in 1974. The first full album, "Antes que Eu Volte a Ser Nada", came in 1975. In the early 80s she left her label (Polygram) and spent a few years without recording, but during that period she also developed her career abroad. Leci eventually started recording again. She works for TV stations during carnival as an expert commentator. In 1999, she put out the CD "Auto-Estima". Some of her career hits are "Isso É Fundo de Quintal", "Só Quero Te Namorar", "Café com Pão", "Papai Vadiou" and "Olodum Força Divina".
