Marlui Miranda

Born in Fortaleza (capital of Ceará, Northeastern Brazil) and raised in Brasília (DC), she moved to Rio de Janeiro in the 70s and studied classical guitar with renowned teachers like Turíbio Santos. She acted as a back up musician for Egberto Gismonti, Milton Nascimento, Jards Macalé and released the album "Olho d'Água" in 1979. Her songs have been recorded by Ney Matogrosso, Sá & Guarabyra and others. Still in the 70s, she began researching and studying the music of Brazilian natives. She got a scholarship from a New York-based institution and accomplished a project for the preservation of the music from the Brazilian Amazon forest. She worked as consultant for movies and plays; recorded albums in Brazil and abroad. Marlui has been a member of the group Pau Brasil since 1996. In 1998, she appeared in the album "O Sol de Oslo", along with Gilberto Gil, Bugge Wesseltoft, Trikot Gurtu, Rodolfo Stroeter and Toninho Ferragutti.
