Moraes Moreira
08/07/1947
Moraes started out playing the twelve-bass accordion in the countryside of Bahia. He learned to play the guitar in his teens, moving to Salvador when he finished high-school. There, Moreira met with Tom Zé, Paulinho Boca de Cantor and Luiz Galvão, with whom he would later line-up Novos Baianos (also with Pepeu Gomes, Baby Consuelo, Jorginho, Baixinho, Bolacha and Dadi). He left Novos Baianos in 1975 and pursued a solo career, dedicating mainly to carnival in Bahia. In 1978, he put out the hit "Pombo Correio". In the 80s, he enjoyed tremendous success with "Festa do Interior", recorded by Gal Costa. The CD "Moraes Moreira Acústico" achieved considerable sales figures. In 1997, Moraes released two albums: "50 Carnavais" and "Infinito Circular". With over thirthy albums recorded, his biggest hits are: "Acabou Chorare", "Preta Pretinha", "É Ferro na Boneca", "Dê um Rolê" (all with Galvão), "Lá Vem o Brasil Descendo a Ladeira" (with Pepeu Gomes), "Pão e Poesia", "Meninas do Brasil", "Bloco do Prazer", "Coisa Acesa" (all with Fausto Nilo), "E Assim Pintou Moçambique" (with Antônio Risério) e "Forró do ABC" (with Patinhas).
