Originais do Samba
Samba group lined-up in the early 60s in Rio de Janeiro by samba school percussionists. They settled in São Paulo after touring around Mexico, and accompanied Elis Regina in 1968, when she sang "Lapinha" (Baden Powell and Paulo César Pinheiro) in a festival. The following years, Originais recorded Jorge Ben's "Mas Que Nada", enjoying success. They participated in festivals and won golden records, mainly in the 70s. They played along big MPB names - such as Chico Buarque, Jair Rodrigues, Vinicius de Moraes - and international artists like Earl Grant. Originais toured around Europe and USA, being the first samba group to play the Olympia, in Paris. Some of their greatest hits are: "Tá Chegando Fevereiro" (Jorge Ben/ João Melo), "O Lado Direito da Rua Direita" (Luiz Carlos/ Chiquinho), "A Dona do Primeiro Andar", "O Aniversário do Tarzan", "Esperanças Perdidas" (Adeilton Alves/ Délcio Carvalho), "E Lá se Vão Meus Anéis" (Eduardo Gudin/ P.C. Pinheiro), "Tragédia no Fundo do Mar (Assassinato do Camarão)" (Zeré/ Ibrahim), "Se Papai Gira" (Jorge Ben), "Nego Véio Quando Morre". They made a CD in 1997 to celebrate 30 years of activity.
