Paralamas do Sucesso
Currently regarded as one of the most traditional Brazilian rock bands, Paralamas do Sucesso was founded in the early 1980's in Brasília (DC). As the drummer Vital left the band, he was replaced by João Barone. The trio - Herbert Vianna (guitar and vocals), Bi Ribeiro (bass) and João Barone (drums) - has been playing together for about 20 years.
In Rio de Janeiro, they band recorded a demo tape and sent it to Rádio Fluminense, which was looking for new talents and eager to air new music, turning the song "Vital e sua Moto" (inspired in the former drummer) into the band's first hit. In 1983, Paralamas recorded their debut album, "Cinema Mudo", for EMI, obtaining significant success. But the band's greatest hit came in 1984, with the release of their second album, "O Passo do Lui", which featured some of their most popular songs: "Óculos", "Meu Erro", "Ska" and "Romance Ideal" (all written by Herbert Vianna). In the following year, the band made their third LP, "Selvagem?", which sold over 700,000 copies. Two of its songs reached the top of the charts: "Alagados" and "Melô do Marinheiro". That album indicated the band's pioneering introduction of a mix between BPM and rock, which would be intensified in their following albums.
Throughout its 20 years of existence, the band has kept a regular production of albums and hits, including a few polemic works, such as the song "Luís Inácio (300 Picaretas)" which criticized the Brazilian Congress.
"A Novidade", "Cinema Mudo", "Fui Eu", "Lourinha Bombril", "O Beco", "Vamo Batê Lata" and the ballads "Lanterna dos Afogados" and "Quase Um Segundo" are some of Paralamas’ hit tracks.
Paralamas do Sucesso has toured Europe and is one of the most popular bands in Argentina.
