Patápio Silva

At age 15, he joined the band of the town of Cataguases (Minas Gerais), where he lived, playing the flute. He studied music and became a professional, joining bands in different cities until getting to Rio de Janeiro in 1901. Patápio studied at the Escola Nacional de Música, graduating as a flutist with the highest grades in fewer years than usual. He became notorious and was a choro predecessor. As a composer, he wrote famous pieces like "Primeiro amor" and "Amor Perdido". Patápio died in Santa Catarina, during a trip to raise funds for an international tour. Flutists like Altamiro Carrilho and Lenir Siqueira recorded his music.
