Pery Ribeiro
27/10/1937
Son of the musicians Dalva de Oliveira and Herivelto Martins, Pery started his singing career at a very early age. Following the advice of radio broadcaster César de Alencar, the singer adopted the artistic name Pery Ribeiro in the 1950's. Pery recorded his first album in 1960, and in the same year made his debut as a composer with the song "Não Devo Insistir", written with Dora Lopes.
In 1961, he performed the songs "Manhã de Carnaval" and "Samba de Orfeu", both by Luiz Bonfá and Antônio Maria. With Luiz Bonfá, he recorded the LP "Pery Ribeiro e Seu Mundo de Canções Românticas", with romantic ballads that have been present throughout his career. In 1963, Pery made the first recording of the song "Garota de Ipanema" (Tom Jobim/ Vinicius de Moraes), followed by twelve bossa nova albums.
With Leny Andrade and Bossa 3 (with whom he recorded the live show "Gemini V"), Pery took in a jazzy repertoire. He traveled to Mexico and United States, where he played with Sérgio Mendes’ band. Pery also recorded a few albums with pianist Luiz Eça.
In the 1990's he recorded the CDs "A Vida É Só Cantar" (1997) and "Homenagem a Nelson Gonçalves" (1999).
