Quarteto em Cy
All-girl vocal quartet firstly comprised of four sisters (Cyva, Cynara, Cybele and Cylene) born in Bahia. The group headed to Rio de Janeiro in the 60s, where they met Carlos Lyra and Vinicius de Moraes, who became their godfather. Their studio debut happened in 1963. In the following year they performed along with Vinicius and Dorival Caymmi, and recorded their first album, named after the group, with arrangements written by Eumir Deodato. They made other albums in the 60s, before Cylene leaving the quartet and being substituted by Regina Werneck. They traveled to the United States, appeared on TV shows and made an album. They returned to the U.S. in 1967 dubbed as "The Girls From Bahia" and played a series of shows. Back in Brazil, it was Cynara’s and Cybele’s turn to leave the quartet, choosing to work as a duo. Cymiramis and Sonia filled in, but the quartet dissolved in 1970. They re-grouped two years later with a different line up (Cyva, Cynara, Sonia and Dorinha Tapajós) and made six discs. In 1980, Cybele returned, replacing Dorinha and the line up remains unchanged to this day. They have made numerous albums, since then, with musician/artistic director Celia Vaz: Vinicius em Cy, Chico em Cy, Bossa em Cy, Gil & Caetano em Cy. In the 90s, they toured Japan and Europe. By the late 90s, Quarteto em Cy made two albums with their male counterparts, MPB-4: Bate Boca (1997) and Somos Todos Iguais (1999).
