Raphael Rabello
31/10/1962
27/04/1995
Born into a large musical family, Rabello started playing the guitar at the age of 12. He founded the group Os Carioquinhas, who played choro. Rabello had lessons with the legendary guitarist Dino 7 Cordas (Dino 7 strings), with whom he recorded an LP in 1991. Rabello also played the 7-string guitar and, for a while, adopted the name Raphael 7 Strings. Regarded as a virtuoso on the guitar (mainly 6 and 7-string guitars), Rabello played with the greatest names of choro and samba, like Elizeth Cardoso and Radamés Gnattali - the latter was a very important person in Rabello's last years. In 1986, the guitarist released the album "Raphael Rabello interpreta Radamés Gnattali".
In 1989, Rabello was involved in a car accident and fractured his right arm in several places, putting his musical career at risk. However, after a period of 4 months, he made a comeback in the show "Todo Sentimento", with singer Elizeth Cardoso.
One of Rabello's most praised works was the album he recorded with singer Ney Matogrosso, "À Flor da Pele", from 1990. Rabello also recorded with Paulo Moura, Deo Rian and Romero Lubambo. His acclaimed performance of choro classics like "1 x 0" (Pixinguinha) and "Desvairada" (Garoto) became big hits. In 1992, Rabello released a tribute-album to Tom Jobim, "Todos os Tons", with Paco de Lucia, Jacques Morelenbaum and Jobim himself.
Rabello recorded with several artists and was one of the most requested guitarists in the 80's and 90's. His impeccable technique and sensitive performance can be appreciated in his performance of different music styles - classical, choro, flamenco and bossa nova.
His premature death at the age of 32, associated with his technical virtuosity and genius, granted him the Title of "Mozart of Choro".
