Raul Seixas
28/06/1945
21/08/1989
Born in Salvador, Bahia (Northeast Brazil), Raul Seixas was strongly influenced by the 50's rock and the northeastern music, especially by accordion master Luiz Gonzaga. In 1960, Seixas founded the group Os Panteras, which performed in Salvador and then in Rio de Janeiro, where he recorded the LP 'Raulzito e os Panteras', a big sales flop. After that, Seixas started working as a music producer for the record company CBS, producing albums for Jovem Guarda (New-school, the Brazilian rock'n'roll movement of the 60's) artists like Jerry Adriani. Then, Seixas secretly recorded the anarchic album 'Sociedade da Grã-Ordem Kavernista Apresenta: Sessão das Dez', which featured songs by Sérgio Sampaio. After that, Seixas lost his job and performed the song 'Let Me Sing, Let Me Sing' in the 1972 International Song Festival. Soon after, Seixas was hired by Philips, which released his first hits: 'Ouro de Tolo', 'Metamorfose Ambulante', 'Al Capone' and 'Mosca na Sopa'. Seixas changed record labels several times and had trouble with all of them. Other successful tracks are 'Maluco Beleza', 'Rock da Aranha' and 'Carimbador Maluco'.
Seixas died of pancreatic complications resulting from a drinking problem, and left a discography of twenty LPs. Even after his death, Raul Seixas is still regarded as a rock legend and symbol of Brazilian anarchy by a legion of loyal fans. All of Seixas' albums have been released on CD, including several compilatins of his greatest hits. Seixas' songs have been recorded by other Brazilian artists like RPM ("Gita") and Caetano Veloso ("Ouro de Tolo").
