Rebeca Matta

Singer and songwriter born in Salvador (capital of Bahia), she graduated in business administration. Rebeca makes electronic music in a town whose musical scene is almost entirely dominated by axé music. Admittedly influenced by Tom Zé, she released a successful debut album, "Tantas Coisas", in 1999, using electronica as a bed for a mash that includes local influences, as well as oriental music and acoustic instruments, besides bass, guitar and percussion. That same year, she was awarded Best New Artist by the APCA (São Paulo Art Critics Association). In 2000, she released the album "Garotas Boas Vão Pro Céu, Garotas Más Vão Pra Qualquer Lugar" (or "Good Girls go to Heaven, Bad Girls go Everywhere"), which combined some of her own songs ("O Olho Nu" and "É Que A Vida É") with versions of "A Cidade" (Chico Science) and "A Mentira" (Manu Chao).
