Rosinha de Valença nascimento 30/07/1941

Born in Valença, in the countryside of Rio de Janeiro, she started playing the guitar as a child, on her own. She headed for Rio in 1963, being discovered by journalist Sérgio Porto, who introduced her to Baden Powell and Aloysio de Oliveira, who produced her debut album, "Apresentando Rosinha de Valença" (Elenco). She stood out as an excellent instrumentalist. Her collaboration with Baden Powell was essential to set bossa nova standards. Rosinha toured with Sérgio Mendes in 1964. She returned to Brazil only in 1970 and continued performing through the 70s and 80s. Rosinha had a heart attack in 1992, which left her in a coma. Since then, tribute-concerts and albums have been arranged so as to pay for her treatment.
