Sepultura
Thrash metal band formed in 1984 in Belo Horizonte (capital of Minas Gerais, Southeast Brazil), Sepultura are more popular in the United States than in Brazil, as they will only sing in English. Their first album, "Bestial Devastation", was a split LP with the band Overdose, released in ’85 via independent label, being followed by "Morbid Visions", from 1986. As guitarist Andreas Kisser joined the group, they recorded "Schizophrenia", which gave them worldwide projection. In the next year, they closed a deal with American label Roadrunner, and turned exclusively toward the international market. "Beneath the Remains", released in 1989, enjoyed enormous prestige among American critics, therefore making Sepultura famous in Brazil and abroad. In 1996 they visited Brazil so as to research on Indian rhythms and promote the release of their album "Roots". In that same year, lead vocalist Max Cavalera left the group, causing some mishaps. The rest of the band decided to remain together and proceeded to find a new vocalist, Derrick Green, officially a Sepultura member since June 1998.
