Sergio Ricardo
18/06/1932
His family came from Lebanon, and he was born in the countryside fo São Paulo. Sergio studied piano as a child and moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1952, getting a job as a pianist replacing Tom Jobim. He was an early bossa nova songwriter, and released the albums "Não Gosto Mais de Mim" and "A Bossa Romântica de Sérgio Ricardo" in the 60s. Many of his songs' lyrics describe social forms of protests and one of the most famous is "Zelão". He wrote music scores for movies and plays, among which "Auto da Compadecida" (Ariano Suassuna), "Deus e Diabo na Terra do Sol", "O Dragão da Maldade contra o Santo Guerreiro" and "Terra em Transe, all by Glauber Rocha. In 1967, his song "Beto Bom de Bola" was intensely booed in a festival, leading him to break his guitar while onstage and throw it toward the audience. He kept performing through the 70s, 80s and 90s.
