Sylvia Telles nascimento 27/08/1934 falescimento 17/12/1966

Identified with bossa nova, singer and composer Silvinha Telles started out her career prior to the bossa explosion. In 1952, Silvinha already dreamt of becoming a singer. Around 1955, she started performing in music venues and recorded her first single, which featured the songs "Amendoim Torradinho" (Henrique Beltrão) and "Desejo" (Garoto/ José Vasconcelos/ Luiz Claudio). In 1956, she released a 78 rpm with the songs "Foi a Noite" (Tom Jobim/ Newton Mendonça) and "Menina", by the (then) newcomer Carlos Lyra. This album is regarded as a milestone of the bossa nova movement.

One year later, Silvinha released her first LP, "Carícia", which included songs like "Se Todos Fosse Iguais a Você" (Tom Jobim/ Vinicius), "Chove Lá Fora" (Tito Madi), and others. With her 1959 album, "Amor de Gente Moça", Silvia Telles became the first professional singer to release a full album with only bossa nova songs. The LP included some of bossa novas classics, such as "Dindi" (Tom Jobim/ Aloysio de Oliveira), "A Felicidade" (Jobim/ Vinicius de Moraes) and "Só em Teus Braços" (Jobim).

In the 60’s, the singer went to the United States, where she recorded several bossa nova songs. Silvinha died in a car accident when she was about to travel to the U.S. once again.
