Toninho Horta
02/12/1948
Idolized by legions of guitarists and composers, this musician from Minas Gerais made his recording debut on Nivaldo Ornellas’ 1969album. But only in 1972, when Horta played the guitar on Milton Nascimento’s album "Clube da Esquina", did he catch the public’s attention. In the following years, Horta recorded with Elis Regina, Gal Costa, Nana Caymmi, Joyce, Edu Lobo.
Horta’s first solo album, "Terra dos Pássaros", was released in 1980, introducing Horta’s skills as a composer. After that, Horta became very popular in the U.S., Japan and Europe. He has already released 10 solo albums, some of which are only available abroad. Horta has played live and made recordings with several other musicians.
Toninho Horta is particularly popular among musicians who enjoy his elaborate harmonies and inspiring melodies. Even though Horta’s songs are not frequently played on the radio, some of them are regarded as milestones, such as "Diana" (written with Fernando Brant), "O Céu de Brasília" (written with F. Brant), "Durango Kid" (written with F. Brant), "Dona Olímpia" (written with Ronaldo Bastos, and also recorded by Nana Caymmi), "Beijo Partido" (recorded by Toninho Horta, Nana Caymmi and Joyce) and his greatest hit, "Manuel, o Audaz" (written with F. Brant).
Renowned artists, such as Pat Metheny, Naná Vasconcelos and Eliane Elias, have played on Horta’s albums.
One of Horta’s latest works is the CD "From Ton to Tom", a tribute to Tom Jobim.
