Toquinho started playing the guitar during his childhood in São Paulo, where he studied popular and classical music, as well as harmony and orchestration, with renowned teachers. In the 60’s he started to play with Chico Buarque, Taiguara, Sérgio Ricardo and others. His first single, recorded in 1964, featured the songs "Primavera" (C. Lyra/ V. Moraes) and "Só Tinha de Ser com Você" (Jobim/ A. de Oliveira). In the following year, in Rio de Janeiro, he worked as a back up guitarist and write songs for musicals. Toquinho made the LP "O Violão de Toquinho" in 1966; in 1969, he headed to Italy, where he spent 6 months and performed with Chico Buarque and Josephine Baker. Back in Brazil, Toquinho recorded his second LP for RGE, which included the song "Que Maravilha", written by Jorge Ben Jor. In the 70’s, Toquinho’s work in collaboration with Vinicius de Moraes generated around 120 songs, including "Tarde em Itapoã" and "Regra Três".
Toquinho has recorded several albums, but one of his most popular is "Tom, Vinicius, Toquinho e Miúcha", recorded live in Rio de Janeiro.
