Via Sat
The psychedelic rock-maracatu-frevo-funk-samba abnd was lined-up in 1993 by former members of the afro group Lamento Negro (from which Chico Science & Nação Zumbi emerged), on the outskirts of Recife. Having James Brown and Jackson do Pandeiro as their primary references, Pácua (vocals/songwriter), Hamilton Tenório (guitar) and Maureliano (percussion) incorporated bass (Wellington), drums (Junior) and more percussion (Isaías and Samuel), as well as the excellent DJ Big in 1995, playing non-stop at community centers and bars around Recife, and in festivals like Abril Pro Rock and Rec Beat. In 1998, the songs “Lumumbai”, “Baião de Dois (Dub)” and “Zambo Jungle” were respectively included in the compilations "Cidade do Rock", "Recife Rock Mangue II" (Caranguejo Records) and "Pernambuco em Concerto" (Afrika Produções). Via Sat released the independent album "Via Sat" (Morango Music) in 2000. The CD features Naná Vasconcelos on the opening track.
