Vinícius Cantuária nascimento 29/04/1951

Born in Manaus (capital of Amazonas), Cantuária moved with his family to Rio de Janeiro when he was 6 years old. By the time he was 12, he founded the band Os Medievais, playing the drums with friends from school. At the end of the 60’s, Cantuária joined the progressive rock band O Terço, and played at The International Song Festival. Cantuária left the band in 1972, and started working with Jorge Mautner, Luiz Melodia, Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso.

Cantuária’s first hit as a composer is the song "Lua e Estrela", recorded by Caetano Veloso in 1981. His first solo, "Vinícius Cantuária", album was released in 1983 and featured the song "Coisa Linda". Then Cantuária wrote two more hits: "Só Você" and "Na Canção", which were recorded by popular singer Fábio Jr. After that, Cantuária released 3 LPs and toured with Chico Buarque around several countries, promoting Buarque’s album, "Francisco". In 1989, Cantuária recorded an album in Portugal and spent nearly a year performing there.

In the 90’s he emigrated to the United States, where he recorded the acclaimed album "Sol na Cara", produced by Arto Lindsay. Later on, he became involved with electronic music, blending jungle and bossa nova. Cantuária is popular both in Europe and the United States.
