Wagner Tiso

Pianist, composer, arranger, maestro and musical director, Wagner started studying music on his own in Minas Gerais, where he used to play with Milton Nascimento. Later, he was helped and instructed by maestro Paulo Moura. Wagner concentrated in the piano and keyboards and joined a few bands in Belo Horizonte (capital of Minas Gerais). He headed to Rio de Janeiro in 1964, joined other groups (Sambacana, Quarteto de Edison Machado, Paulo Moura, Som Imaginário) and backed up solo artists like Marcos Valle, Maysa, Cauby Peixoto and Milton Nascimento. His first solo album, "Wagner Tiso", came out in 1978 on EMI. In the following years, he made many records and wrote music scores for movies, theater and television. He often performs in Europe. Wagner also dwells on classical music, and has written symphonic suites. Some of his most acclaimed compositions are "Coração de Estudante" (with Milton Nascimento), "Bolero", "Mar Azul", "Nova Estrela", "Armina", "Matança de Porco", "Trem Mineiro" and "Baobab".
