Baden Powell died aged 63, last September, but his work as a guitarist and songwriter is timeless. The compilation A Música de Baden Powell, coming out now on Som Livre, is a small proof of that. Although only one of the songs is performed by Powell (Berimabau), the other tracks feature interesting casts that keep away from obvious solutions. Elis Regina does an amusing version of Vou Deitar e Rolar. Agostinho dos Santos and Rosana Toledo - in perfect tuning and very softly - meet to do Samba em Prelúdio. Guitarist Rosinha de Valença does Consolação and Toquinho & Vinicius perform Canto de Ossanha.
Another highlight on the compilation is that it recovers some of Baden's lesser known songs. Elizeth Cardoso does two of them: Queixa and Samba de Partida. Maria Creuza sings Até Eu, Maria Odette sings Refém da solidão, the group Trama presents Paciência, while a certain Victor Hugo comes up with Despedida, the only disposable track on this impeccable CD.
