Debut solo album by samba school Portela master Casquinha, aged 78 and a member of Portela's Old School group. His talent as a songwriter had already been proven when other masters like Candeia, Paulinho da Viola and Argemiro and interpreters like Elza Soares, Beth Carvalho, Nara Leão, Clara Nunes, Zeca Pagodinho and João Nogueira recorded his music.
Casquinha might not be the best singer in the world, but he manages to imprint a special touch to his songs, due to his vocals full of swing. His greatest hit, Recado - written with Paulinho da Viola -, features Aldir Blanc on vocals. The Old School appears on O Sol (Casquinha and Argemiro). Other key tracks: Mais Velho, the pot-pourri Preta Aloirada/Cabelo Danado and O Ideal É Competir. Well done.
