ACÚSTICO MTV - CÁSSIA ELLER
Cássia Eller (2001)
Crítica
Cotação:
Among the singers that emerged in the '90s, Cássia Eller is one that has really matured. Her deep voice seems more and more under control, displaying thoughtful interpretations and growing versatility - besides pop and rock, she has successfully tried samba, forró and other styles. Although her repertoire hasn't always been in accordance to her talent, Cásia has been taking the right steps, especially in live performances, which she masters like no one else. Her eighth album, Acústico MTV, though, is not about the more intriguing disc she's made.
One of the problems is recording songs like E.C.T., Malandragem, Nós and Todo Amor que Houver Nessa Vida three times in 11 years - although the arrangements are fine and original. Her gutsy reading of Por Enquanto and 1º de Julho (both written by Renato Russo) do not overcome her own original recordings of the same tracks, as well as the hit O Segundo Sol (Nando Reis), from her previous album, whose arrangement was even better than the song itself.
The most interesting tracks that she had never recorded are Partido Alto (Chico Buarque), Top Top (Mutantes) and the samba Vá Morar com o Diabo (Riachão). Other nice shots are the links that she builds with contemporary MPB movements: the São Paulo rap represented by Xis (writer of De Esquina) and the manguebeat represented by Nação Zumbi (who have three percussionists perform on Quando a Maré Encher). Non, Je Ne Regrete Rien and Sgt. Peper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - Edith Piaf and Beatles standards, repectively - are more worth for the unpredictability of being featured in a Cássia Eller album. In general, the album is correct and the well performed.
