EU ESTOU BEM
Joanna (2001)
Crítica
Cotação:
Following the nice double live CD that celebrated her 20-year career, Joanna is now back again trailing the pop ballad path that made her famous. The production here is very good and allows her to flirt with folk/country music, sometimes. In one word, her album is not very different from what Gloria Estefan, Celine Dion, Laura Pausini, Whitney Houston, Joni Mitchell or Carly Simon do. They sell by the millions, and Joanna has everything that she needs to do the same, since the album is in perfect timing and accordance with the tacky international pop music.
Apart from the xote Tô Querendo Você (Elias Muniz/ Fátima Leão), the songs are variations on the same theme, as noticed on Pra Começo de Conversa (Álvaro Socci/ Cláudio Matta) and Dizer Não (César Augusto/ Antonio Luiz/ Nil Bernardes). She even came up with Última Canção (Carlos Roberto), a Paulo Sergio hit that got all made up but couldn’t get rid of its innate tackiness.
There are a lot of people in the world willing to listen to corny lyrics and whining melodies. But the more demanding listeners should turn to other Joanna albums, such as the excellent Estrela Guia (1980) or even 20 Anos Ao Vivo (1999). At least, the arrangements are a bit more inventive, she doesn’t do religious numbers and the graphic art is good. It’s something, but it’s not everything. She can do a lot better.
