Originally released in 1975, the soundtrack of the soap opera Gabriela takes us back to a time when the music industry hadn't yet been contaminated by purely commercial purposes. It sounds amazing, but there was a time when Dorival Caymmi could write four songs for a soap opera. A time when it was possible to find wonderful recordings by artists like Maria Bethânia, Moraes Moreira, Djavan, Quarteto em Cy, Alceu Valença, Gal Costa, Fafá de Belém, Geraldo Azevedo, MPB-4, Elomar, João Bosco and Walter Queiróz on a soap opera soundtrack. The fact is, even being anti-commercial for the current soap soundtrack standards, the Gabriela disc featured at least five songs that were turned popular and became hits. Either with already established names like Gal Costa (Modinha Para Gaberiela) or with (then) newcomers like Fafá de Belém (Filho da Bahia) and Djavan (Alegre Menina). Other highlights on the album: Horas (Quarteto em Cy), Porto (MPB-4) and the beautiful (and sad) Adeus, interpreted by the obscure Walker.
