BATUQUE
Ney Matogrosso (2001)
Crítica
Cotação:
Ney Matogrosso is one of the few MPB singers who enjoys the comfortable position of dictating his aesthetics to major labels, when the usual route is the opposite. After going over the works of Chico Buarque (Um Brasileiro, 1996) and Ângela Maria (Estava Escrito, 1994), the flamboyant performer dives into the repertoire of Carmen Miranda. The album was devised along with choro group Nó em Pingo D'Água, and includes tracks from other interpreters.
Key tracks: De Papo Pro Ar (Joubert de Carvalho/Olegário Mariano), Tico no Fubá (Zequinha de Abreu, from 1917, originally released in 1931), Maria Boa (Assis Valente, 1936), E o Mundo Não Se Acabou (Assis Valente, 1938), Coração and Adeus Batucada (Synval Silva, 1935). The album features carefully crafted arrangements and excellent musicians, such as trumpeter Marcio Montarroyos, percussionist Marcos Suzano, guitarists João Lyra and Marcello Gonçalves and bassist Jorge Helder. Ney is light and playful, accurate and groovy.
