Cotação: 
The "gangsta samba" made by Bezerra da Silva is truly irresisitible. Politically incorrect, forerunner of the hip hop lyrics about the underground life in the favelas, his work is very well represented on the Pérolas compilation. The best samba tradition and Rio humor, authentic. Bezerra doesn't go for the dark glasses and basketball T-shirts in order to legitimate the poignant social criticism with songs like Verdadeiro Canalha (or Real Bastard) ("He got elected by the favela/then he had it shot at")
The tracks on this compilation belong to two albums from the beginning of his career (Partido Alto Nota 10 - Volumes 1 and 2, from 1977 and 79, on CID) an other two from the 1990s (Contra o Verdadeiro Canalha, 1995, and Meu Samba É Duro na Queda, 1996). Key tracks: A Fumaça Já Subiu pra Cuca, Pobre Aposentado, Malandro Moderno, Acordo de Malandro, Pega Eu and Meu Samba É Duro na Queda.
