Ronaldo Bôscoli nascimento 28/10/1928 falescimento 18/11/1994

Born into an artistic family from Rio de Janeiro (great-grand nephew of pioneering composer Chiquinha Gonzaga), Bôscoli started working as a sports journalist in 1951. Invited by Samuel Wainer to work as a reporter for the newspaper "Última Hora", Bôscoli made friends with Vinicius de Moraes, who would later marry Bôscoli’s sister, Lila. Influenced by his many artist and musician friends, Bôscoli changed careers and became one of the greatest promoters of bossa nova. With his friend Mièle, Bôscoli produced the first "pocket-show", a term created by Bôscoli, introducing Odete Lara and Sergio Mendes in Rio de Janeiro. Bôscoli organized and directed dozens of shows in the nightclubs located at the legendary Beco das Garrafas. Being the oldest, the grumpiest and most reactionary among his circle of musician friends, Bôscoli was nicknamed "O Véio" (The Old Guy). In 1957, Bôscoli wrote his first lyrics - "Sente" – whose music was written by Chico Feitosa and performed by Norma Benguel in that same year. With Carlos Lyra, he wrote two songs – "Lobo Lobo" and "Saudade Fez Um Samba" – which were included on João Gilberto’s classic bossa nova record "Chega de Saudade", released in 1959. He composed several songs with his loyal music partner, Roberto Menescal. Together, they wrote several bossa nova standards, such as "O Barquinho", "Nós e o Mar", "Telefone" and "Balançamba". In that same period, Bôscoli directed several shows at Beco das Garrafas and many TV shows. In 1967, Bôscoli married Elis Regina, with whom he had a stormy relationship until their divorce in 1972. During the 80’s, he wrote a number of TV shows for Globo TV Network and produced Roberto’s Carlos annual show, but failed to maintain the same influence on the music scene as he had had in the past. He fought prostate cancer, which killed him in 1994.
